Jose Luis Rodriguez Gil
PhD Research Scientist
IISD Experimental Lakes Area

Jose Luis (Pepe) Rodriguez Gil’s interaction with the Stress Ecology lab dates back to 2009 when he started his PhD at the University of Guelph co-advised by Dr. Mark Hanson and Dr. Keith Solomon. His PhD work aimed to revise and update the risk assessment for a surfactant mixture (POEA) commonly used in Glyphosate formulations. This work involved laboratory toxicity tests, mesocosm work, and environmental chemistry approaches. After finishing his PhD Dr. Rodriguez Gil completed Postdoctoral stays at the University of Calgary and the University of Ottawa, the latter bringing him back to work with the U of M Stress Ecology Lab as part of the BOREAL project, which simulated oil spills in freshwater ecosystems.

Currently, Dr. Rodriguez Gil is a research scientist at the IISD – Experimental Lakes Area and an adjunct professor at U of M, where he co-advises a number of students within the U of M Stress Ecology Lab together with Dr. Mark Hanson.
