Aashiya is an international student from Nepal who graduated with a Bachelor of Environmental Science (Co-op, Honours) focusing on aquatic ecology and minoring in Statistics at the University of Manitoba. Her honours research involved accessing the impacts of freshwater salinization on emergent insects in simulated wetland enclosures at the Prairie Wetland Research Facility, under the supervision of Dr. Mark Hanson and Braedon Humeniuk.

 

Over the course of summer 2023 and into the fall, she was actively involved with the Prairie Wetland Salinization Experiment where she has been analyzing her water and emergent insect samples. Aashiya is enthusiastic about expanding her knowledge in freshwater science and believes that her honours research aids in building a stronger comprehension of the impact of salt on freshwater ecosystems.
